Grand Rapids Ballet Junior Company

The Junior Company provides students of Grand Rapids Ballet School between the ages of 10 and 19 with greater performance opportunities. Junior Company members will enjoy the thrill of performing in their own productions and alongside the professional company dancers of Grand Rapids Ballet.

For the 2017-18 Season, Junior Company members will have the opportunity to perform in:

From Russia with Love: October 6-8, 13 (Peter Martin Wege Theatre)
The Nutcracker: December 1-3 and 8-10 (DeVos Performance Hall)
The Wizard of Oz: February 23-25 and March 3-4 (Peter Martin Wege Theatre)
Who Am I? A Butterfly Ballet: March 17-18 (Frederik Meijer Gardens & Sculpture Park)
Mother Goose’s Friends (Spring Break for Kids): April 2-6 (Peter Martin Wege Theatre)
The Wizard of Oz, Tour Performance: April 13-14 (Dogwood Center for Performing Arts, Fremont MI)

Auditions for the Junior Company are held at the beginning of the each Semester. To audition, students must be between the ages of 10 and 19 and be enrolled full-time in Grand Rapids Ballet School.

Attila was born in Kisvarda, Hungary. He received his early training at the National Ballet Institute in Budapest. After moving to the United States, he joined the Joffrey Ballet School. He has performed as a guest artist with Mobile Ballet, Bravo Dance, Harrisburg Ballet, Ballet Theatre of Chicago and the Joffrey Ballet of Chicago. Attila spent sixteen years as a Grand Rapids Ballet company dancer and 8 years as a Ballet Master. As a company dancer, a few of his notable roles include The Prodigal Son in George Balanchine’s Prodigal Son, Max in Septime Webre’s Where The Wild Things Are, Charlie Chaplin in Gordon Peirce Schmidt’s Flickers, Tibalt in Mario Radacovsky’s Romeo and Juliet, and Melancholic in George Balanchine’s The Four Temperaments. Director of the Grand Rapids Ballet School’s Junior Company in 2011.  Since becoming the Artistic Director, Attila has choreographed many ballet including Snow White, Peter Pan, Beauty & the Beast, Carnival of the Animals, and Mother Goose Nursery Rhymes for the Junior Company. He and his wife Mindy have one daughter and one son, Vivian and Cameron.
